Museum Der Kulturen Basel

Iluminarium is a video mapping event that took place at Christmas on the Basel Museum of Culture. Together with Dosdecadatres we prepared a proposal with the idea of ​​"painting" the facade of the museum

MATISGUENGA

One of the main images of the museum is a guardian figure from Peru that was made after the death of a Matsiguenga. They are placed on the path from the forest to the settlement and scare or kill the spirits of the dead. Figures do not have to be large for this important task. They are as tall as a child.

The main idea was to recreate patterns with ethnic textures and imperfect lines drawn with ink. These textures move rhythmically, almost like an African dance. We create the animations at 12fps to give them a rougher look, then we exported them at 30fps for projection.

We also created an animated font for the messages in the intermission. The typography was drawn by hand in ink several times and then scanned, to have the same rhythm as the other graphic elements,
